Placing pool balls in the right position
When you play pool, the placement of the balls influences the rest of the game. This is done at the start of each game to ensure the best possible start.
The “Classique” investment :
- First of all, you need to install the triangle. Place it in the center of your pool table. Take care to position the triangle correctly in relation to the table's markers. These are the fly, the center point and the white stripes. The tip of the triangle should be on the fly, and the base of the triangle should be parallel to the line closest to the edge of the table. Make sure the triangle is stable enough to place the balls on it without any problem.
- Next, place the balls in the triangle, ensuring that the black ball is in the center of the other balls. Imagine diagonals running from each corner of the triangle, and place the black ball at the point where these diagonals cross.
- Alternate between solid and striped balls. Place a solid ball and a striped ball on each of the lower corners of the triangle, ensuring that they are not of the same color. The remaining balls should be placed randomly in the rest of the triangle, also alternating between solid and striped balls. Make sure all the balls are correctly positioned and do not touch the edges of the triangle. Then carefully remove the triangle.
For each type of game, some of these rules may not apply or may change :
American Pool :
- For the 8-ball game : Alternating between solid and striped balls is not mandatory. The key is to arrange the balls randomly.
- For the 9-ball game (16 balls) : The 1-ball must be placed at the point of the triangle.
- For the 10-ball game : The 10-ball, the most important, must be placed in the center of the triangle. The 1-ball must not be positioned directly above the 10-ball.
- For continuous 14/1 : Alternation between striped and solid balls is not mandatory. The cue ball, the lead ball, must be placed outside the triangle on the “respect” point located 7 cm from the rail closest to the triangle.
Snooker
- For snooker (22 balls):
The 15 red balls are placed in the compact triangle. The ball at the top of the triangle must not touch any other ball.
The yellow ball must be placed on the spot to the right of the fly, the green ball on the green spot to the left of the fly. The brown ball must be placed in the center of the line closest to the edge of the table, the blue in the center of the table. Finally, the pink ball must be placed at the top of the triangle of red balls, without touching them.
The white ball can be placed anywhere in zone D, behind the line closest to the edge of the table. The player who makes the break places the cue ball.
French pool :
- For carom or French pool :
The red ball must be placed on the bottom fly. The white cue ball must be placed on the center spot. The all-white ball may be placed to the right or left of the cue ball.
